Who are you listening to? What voices are fueling your thinking?
We all build a structure of living that works for a time, but unforeseen, sometimes sudden upsets bring those structures down like a house of cards. Fear becomes a reaction that is understandable and can be paralyzing. If the downfall included the trauma of emotionally devastating loss or rejection such as divorce, death, catastrophic illness or economic disaster, the sinking feeling can take you down fast.
How do you even start to get back up and keep going let alone see a positive track ahead? Where does the process start?
For me it starts on my knees. I have a sign at my desk that says, “Knee work bears fruit.” It means that prayer is the starting place that will lead me to the next step I must see in order to find my way. It is right there in the place of prayer that gratitude grows in my heart and hopeful perspectives are born anew in my mind.
Only then am I ready to take action… OK, I admit that sometimes my action steps are taken with fear and trembling, but that is the way I start out almost every day. The fear evaporates as the activities of the day absorb my attention and at night I close my eyes knowing I did what had to be done.
As I look back over the years, I see that every day I have had just enough. Not too much and not to little…….. just enough and that is all I needed. Enough included people, possessions and yes… even problems.
Try starting on your knees, asking for what you need. God has a “yes” face.
