One room at a time and I started in the bathroom. It took, can you believe, THREE hours! I sorted out stuff to throw, give away, store and take with me to Germany.
My past as a hair design artist meant I had lots of stuff related to that business. Those were very good years when I worked in a lovely salon with a lot of creative colleagues. Each day was devoted to making beautiful hair for the many clients I served and I loved it. But now, most of the tools of that trade are no longer relevant to the present and in fact those tools might be well used by another. The give away category took the majority of those items.
I love this feeling of freedom and anticipation as I rid myself of the stuff around me that serves no purpose for the present or future adventure I am anticipating.
In Germany, I will live in a dormitory type of setting where my personal space will included only what is necessary to start and end the day. The rest of my hours will be spent within a community setting in shared spaces with other people and projects.
Although I do not know who will be part of this new adventure, I anticipate meeting talented, visionary men and women from different corners of the world who share my heartfelt passion for personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I will be part of a backstage team that supports the front line missionaries of Steiger with key infrastructure and administrative support.
My daughter sent me a video of the room so that I can anticipate the space and think about how I will make it my own. This is where my creativity will be focused for the first few weeks.
Today, my plan is to go through my bedroom closet. I got some ideas on this from my other daughter who suggested Project 333 which is the minimalist fashion challenge that invites you to dress with 33 items or less for 3 months. I’m thinking this will be good structure for today’s purging project.
Getting ready is fun!
